Koshimizu Primeval Flower Garden Spot lilies in the grass, then follow the path toward the sea
At Koshimizu Primeval Flower Garden, I want to feel the sea breeze as I look for flowers in the grass. On a late-June morning, I’ll walk the dune path, then enjoy the Koshimizu treats I brought along.
A late-June scene in early summer, with the coastal path and Ezo-sukashiyuri lilies to enjoy.
SummerA late-June morning
An early-summer morning with the sea, flowers, and a snack
One late-June morning, I stepped onto the walking path at Koshimizu Primeval Flower Garden. I’d thrown a mint jacket over my white blouse and looked out to sea from the dunes. When the gaps between the clouds grew brighter, the water started sparkling too.
Ezo-sukashiyuri lilies were peeking through the grass beside the path. I stopped in front of a low wooden fence and took a closer look at each flower. I’d meant to look only for blooms, but my gaze kept drifting out to sea as well.
I’ve heard that Koshimizu Primeval Flower Garden is a natural wildflower field on the dunes between the sea and Lake Tofutsu. I’m on the side facing the sea right now. Watching the path curve with the dunes makes me eager to see what flowers might be waiting farther along.
For a break, I took out the potato tarts I’d brought along. I held a little tart in each hand and lifted one to my mouth. The smooth potato filling and sweet custard made me glad I’d picked them for my walk.
After I’d finished eating, I looked toward the path winding back down. I loved walking to the sound of the sea and spotting flowers in the grass again. That simple rhythm was so much fun, I wanted to wander a little longer before heading back to the car.

Local specialty
Koshimizu potato tarts
A snack made by baking Koshimizu potato filling and custard in a tart shell. The town guide says it’s served at Roadside Station Hanayaka Koshimizu. I brought some along and enjoyed them on my walk; the smooth filling and sweetness made me glad I’d chosen this treat.
