A Drive to Takatoge Azalea Park A Walk Among Sata Azaleas in Late April and Early May
I was holding the loquat in the car park when my detour suddenly started to feel like spring. I was glad I’d got out of the car; even the short pause before seeing the flowers was a pleasure.
I took a breather beside the parked car with a loquat in hand. Then I set off on foot to enjoy the spring flowers—come along for the walk.

Before the Flowers, I Paused to Admire a Loquat in My Hand
My friend and I drove to Takatoge Azalea Park in late April to see the Sata azaleas in bloom. After parking, I took out the loquat I’d brought along before setting off on foot.
I held the loquat on a sheet of white paper and admired its round shape. The flowers and loquats were in season at the same time, so I was happy I could enjoy both on this little detour. I showed it to my friend, and we talked about the flowers we were about to see.
In Tarumizu, loquat season also runs from April to May. “So I get to enjoy fruit while the flowers are out, too,” I told my friend. I wanted to take a moment to admire the one I’d brought along before walking over to see the flowers. I had one more thing to look forward to on this spring outing.
Still standing beside the car, I straightened my cardigan sleeve. I tucked the loquat away and gathered up my things before my friend and I set off on foot into the park to see the flowers.
The park’s wild Sata azaleas are one of the treats of spring in Tarumizu. As I walked, I stopped by one of the flowers nearby. When my friend and I said, “This is what we came here to see,” I was glad we’d driven all the way up the mountain.
The park grounds sit at an elevation of 550 m, and the hilltop is 722 m high. I took my time walking among the nearby flowers, enjoying the mountain detour. When I get home, I want to remember both that moment with the loquat and the Sata azaleas.
