Lake Kuzuryu and Dream Bridge Across a suspension bridge, driving between lake and mountains in autumn
At Lake Kuzuryu in autumn, I’d like to visit Dream Bridge with colourful mountains behind it. As I follow the road leading to the suspension bridge, the water and mountains feel closer than they do from the lakeshore. Even afterwards, I want to remember that short drive.
This scene is in autumn colour. I’m crossing Dream Bridge in the red convertible and heading along the road beyond.
AutumnAn autumn day with colourful mountains
Even after crossing, the feeling of driving above the lake remains
At the end of Dream Bridge, the road continued out over the lake. I’d been driving along the shore; now I’d cross the water. As the bridge towers approached, even the feeling of both hands on the wheel became a little clearer.
My eyes stayed on the road ahead. Passing between the towers, autumn air entered the open car. Even on a short bridge, there’s a moment when the lakeside road becomes a crossing, and I was glad I got to drive across it myself.
After crossing, the scenery slowly returned to my mind. Mountains surrounding the lake were turning colour, with the suspension bridge among them. It leaves me with a different memory than if I’d stopped to take in the view.
Learning that this bridge was built as a prototype for the Great Seto Bridge changed how its name felt to me. A mountain lake held a story connected to a great bridge across the sea. I had another thing to tell my driving friend when we met.
If I came with her, I’d like to add a break looking over the lake too. Lake Kuzuryu was created by a dam, but seeing it with the surrounding mountains made me curious about its scale. Perhaps next time I’d leave the car and look from somewhere else.
For lunch, I’d choose Kuzuryu maitake tempura. Enjoying a taste of Izumi, the district where the lake lies, might make the place I’d driven through today even more memorable. Still carrying the feeling of the crossing, I headed for the next stop.

What I’d like to taste here
Kuzuryu maitake mushrooms
A speciality of the Izumi district in Ono City. To enjoy their fleshy texture and aroma, I’d choose tempura. I look forward to a lunch after the lake detour.
Places I’d like to stop
A bridge connected to the Great Seto Bridge
Dream Bridge was built as a prototype for the Great Seto Bridge. Knowing its setting across a mountain lake makes me want to tell its origin story too.
A lake created by a rock-fill dam
Lake Kuzuryu is an artificial lake formed by the construction of a rock-fill dam. As I passed between Dream Bridge’s towers, autumn air flowed into my open-top car, and I was happy to be driving above the lake myself.
A road across the lake
Dream Bridge
- Bridge length
- 266 m total length
- Bridge location
- Lake Kuzuryu, upstream of Kuzuryu Dam
From the lakeside road onto the suspension bridge, crossing the lake surrounded by autumn mountains.
I’d like to add the short bridge crossing to a drive for lake views. Even after it ends, I can recall the feeling of passing between the towers.
