Echizen Town and Cape Echizen
Echizen Coast Narcissus on Cape Echizen’s slopes, with the Sea of Japan beyond
On a winter drive for narcissus, I’d like to stop at Cape Echizen Narcissus Land. Flowers bloom right beside the paths, with the lighthouse and the Sea of Japan beyond. Here, I can gaze out to sea and lean in for a closer look at the flowers.
This scene is on a clear winter day. In a coat and scarf, I’m walking the park paths and looking at narcissus on the slope.
WinterNarcissus season, from late December to around February
I meant to head for the sea, but crouched towards the flowers first
Leaving the car and stepping onto the path, I found narcissus continuing across the slope. The sea was visible beyond, but the nearby flowers drew me first. I pulled my scarf closer, bent a little and brought my face towards them.
Many little flowers faced the same way. Watching without touching, I saw them sway together only when the breeze came. A gentle scent reached me. Looking at flowers by a winter sea made me strangely happy.
When I lifted my face, it was the lighthouse and sea’s turn. A moment earlier, I’d watched flowers almost within reach; a slight shift of my gaze let me see all the way to the horizon. Looking near and far in turn made it hard to move on.
I’d told my driving friend I was going to see narcissus. I’d meant to send only flower photos, but now I wanted the lighthouse and sea in them too. If she came, she’d probably stop on this path in just the same way.
Walking towards the narcissus hall, I straightened my coat hem. Flowers followed the slope, so the view changed a little with each step. Should I go back for another photo or continue ahead? Once again, I couldn’t decide.
For lunch, I’d like Echizen crab. See the sea, meet winter flowers and enjoy the season’s flavour. Today, spending longer on the detour seemed better than adding more distance to the drive.

What I’d like to taste here
Echizen crab
A taste of the sea I’d choose on the winter Echizen Coast. After the narcissus, I’d like a leisurely lunch enjoying it at a seaside restaurant.
Places I’d like to stop
Echizen narcissus blooming in winter
Narcissus Land’s usual best season is from late December to around February. I’d like to make time for flowers up close on the slope during a winter drive.
Flowers and lighthouse in one view
From the narcissus hall and paths, Cape Echizen’s view opens towards the Sea of Japan. After leaning in to look at the flowers, I looked up and could see all the way to the horizon. It was hard to move on.

From Route 305 on the Echizen Coast, take a detour for flowers and the lighthouse.
The prefecture’s winter itinerary lists the stretch from Kochomon to Narcissus Land as about 2 km. I’d like to leave the car at the cape and make time for sea and flowers.
