Fuefukigawa Fruit Park Grapes for a snack, city lights below the mountain
I slipped on my coat and put some grapes I'd brought along earlier in the day into a little cup. I picked up a grape and looked out at the night view; the lights stretched so far I almost forgot about my snack.

AutumnA night in September
Grapes for a snack, city lights below the mountain
Just as I picked up a grape, the night view caught my eye. It was September at Fuefukigawa Fruit Park, and city lights spread across the basin below the mountain. I'd been looking forward to my snack, but I ended up gazing at the view, grape in hand.
In a black top and a cream-coloured coat, I held the cup close to my chest. The night breeze stirred my hair. The distant mountains were just dark silhouettes, with lights spreading out below them. The expanse of the city felt different from how it had in daylight.
I popped a grape into my mouth, and its sweetness burst across my tongue. I was glad I'd brought them along earlier in the day. The grapes and the view of the city made me want to take my time with my snack.
I hear there are orchards of peaches and grapes in the park. Who knew a place to enjoy Yamanashi's fruit by day could offer a view like this at night, too? It seemed a shame to choose between seeing the park in daylight and taking in the city lights after dark.
I picked up another grape, but this time I traced the outline of the mountains before eating it. The lights stretched out in thin lines in some places and gathered in bright clusters in others. When I thought of all the lives unfolding behind those lights, the view became more than just pretty.
There were fewer and fewer grapes left in my cup, and I didn't want my little snack to end. I wanted the view and my grapes to last just a little longer. Even after the last one was gone, I kept my coat on and watched the lights below the mountain for a while.

Local specialty
Grapes from Yamanashi
Yamanashi grapes are a treat to look forward to on a trip to the region, and the park has orchards where they're grown, too. I brought some along earlier in the day to enjoy as a snack while I took in the night view. Eating them one by one gave me more time to savour the scenery.
