Hakone
Hakone Pass (Route 1)
From the streets of Odawara, National Route 1 leaves the sea behind and climbs into the Hakone mountains. The briny air thins, the horizon slips into the rearview mirror, and the road stacks into hairpins through cedar forest. The higher the elevation, the thicker the fog grows and the cooler the air turns; every corner cuts the view away into white. It is the route's most demanding chapter — damp asphalt, careful lines, and the mountain's pulse rising under the tires.
